The Broadway debut of Rain – A Tribute to the Beatles has been extended before even beginning previews. The show will now play a 12-week limited engagement through January 9, 2011, at the Neil Simon Theatre. Performances are set to begin on October 19 ahead of an October 26 opening.
This multimedia show, created by veterans of Beatlemania, will cover songs starting in the band’s early days, from their seminal appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show through Shea Stadium and the Abbey Road years. The concert includes historical film footage and television commercials, plus live cameras zooming in for close-ups of the band. Rain presents the kind of show fans didn't get to see in real life, as the Beatles' final concert tour in 1966 pre-dated such iconic releases at Sgt. Pepper, The White Album and Abbey Road. All the music is performed live, with no pre-recorded tapes or sequences.
The cast includes show creators and original band members Joey Curatolo, Joe Bithorn, Ralph Castelli and Steve Landes, plus Graham Alexander, Mark Beyer, Joe Bologna, Douglas Cox, Jim Irizarry, David Leon, Jimmy Pou, Mac Ruffing, Chris Smallwood and Tom Teeley.
