James Earl Jones, Vanessa Redgrave, Boyd Gaines and that famous Packard drove off into the sunset on April 9, 2011, when the Broadway revival of Alfred Uhry’s Driving Miss Daisy played its final performance at the Golden Theatre. The Pulitzer Prize-winning play about the unlikely and life-altering friendship between a feisty Southern widow and her African-American chauffeur celebrated its opening night on October 25, 2010, starring Redgrave and Jones, with Gaines in the role of Daisy’s son Boolie. Though it may be a short-lived farewell for Redgrave and Jones, who are rumored for a West End reprise of the show this fall, family and friends joined Uhry, director David Esbjornson, the starry cast and proud producers as they celebrated their show’s smash Broadway run.
