A musical adaptation of Xaviera Hollander's popular 1971 memoir, The Happy Hooker, has its sights set on Broadway, according to the New York Daily News. Writer Richard Hansom and composer Warren Wills are developing the project, which recently hosted a New York preview for investors. No casting or projected start date has been announced.
The Happy Hooker follows Hollander's life as New York City call girl and notorious madam at her own brothel. Her memoir sold more than 20 million copies and inspired a 1975 film starring Lynn Redgrave.
The production will include songs such as "Don't Mention the Name" and "There's Nothing Like an Older Man." Yvonne Dunleavy, Hollander's co-author, describes the show as "a merry little romp with an insouciant young lady."
