The People in the Picture - Broadway

Donna Murphy stars in this new musical by Beaches scribe Iris Rainer Dart.

Tony Nominee Chat: The People in the Picture Star Donna Murphy is ‘Wearing My Own Damn Hair!’ on The Red Carpet

It’s a time-honored Broadway tradition: the day after the Tony nominations are announced, the lucky nominees get gussied up to meet the press. Broadway.com Editor-in-Chief Paul Wontorek caught up with Broadway powerhouse Donna Murphy, who is up for Best Actress in a Musical for her time-traveling role in The People in the Picture. She plays a 1970s New York grandma and her younger self, a star of the Yiddish theater circuit in pre-war Poland. The ever-gracious Murphy first revealed why being scared of a role is "the point of seduction" for her, then re-lived her less-than-successful encounter with Triumph the Insult Comic Dog on the 2010 Tony red carpet. Check out the marvelous Ms. Murphy below!
