Dates are being firmed up for a stage production of David Seidler’s The King’s Speech, according to Showbiz411.com. As previously reported, the Oscar-winning script began life as a play, producers have been eagerly circling the property in the wake of the movie’s international success.
The King's Speech will reportedly get a three- to five-week engagement at Guilford’s Yvonne Arnaud Theater in January 2012 before a West End run in March 2012. A Broadway transfer would follow in the fall of 2012. UK casting director Gabrielle Dawes has been charged with finding actors to play the King (created onscreen by Best Actor Oscar winner Colin Firth), Logue (Oscar nominee Geoffrey Rush) as well as the Queen (Oscar nominee Helena Bonham Carter) and members of the royal family, the Logue clan and more.
No word on whether the London cast would remain with the Broadway production—or whether Tony winner Rush might be persuaded to reprise his performance onstage. Former Royal Shakespeare Company artistic director Adrian Noble is set to direct.
