Tony-winning playwright John Logan (Red) is teaming up with punk rock legend Patti Smith to adapt her memoir Just Kids for the big screen, according to Deadline.com
Just Kids, which won the 2010 National Book Award for non-fiction, chronicles Smith’s early years struggling as a writer and musician in New York City alongside photographer Robert Mapplethorpe.
Logan recently penned a film adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Coriolanus, directed by Ralph Fiennes, and the screenplay for the forthcoming Martin Scorsese-helmed Hugo. Smith and Logan are writing the Just Kids screenplay without having a distribution deal in place.
