Acclaimed actors Jonathan Pryce and Simon Callow are among the luminaries joining Kevin Spacey in productions during the 2012 winter/spring season at Brooklyn Academy of Music.
As previously announced, Spacey will play the title role of the deformed king in Richard III, directed by Sam Mendes. The play will be presented as part of The Bridge Project, a three-year transatlantic production partnership between BAM, London's Old Vic, where Spacey serves as artistic director, and Mendes' Neal Street Productions. Richard III will run at the Harvey Theater from January 10 through March 4, with its official opening night scheduled for January 18.
London stage star Simon Callow, known for his roles in films like Four Weddings and a Funeral, Shakespeare in Love and The Phantom of the Opera, will star in Being Shakespeare. The one-man show about the playwright, written by Jonathan Bate and directed by Tom Cairns, will run April 4-14.
Two-time Tony winner Pryce (Comedians, Miss Saigon) will star in Harold Pinter's The Caretaker, directed by Christopher Morahan. The drama premiered in London in 2010, and will play the Harvey Theater from May 3 to June 17, 2012, with an official opening set for May 4.
Additional offerings in the season include the U.K. theatre company Cheek By Jowl’s production of John Ford's 'Tis Pity She’s a Whore, at the Harvey Theater from March 20 to 31, directed by Declan Donnellan; a production of Chekhov’s Three Sisters by Russian company Maly Drama Theater, which will run from April 18 to 28; and programs from Mark Morris Dance Company, Israel’s Batsheva Dance Company, DanceAfrica 2012 and Swedish contemporary circus troupe Cirkus Cirkör.
