Death of a Salesman Star Philip Seymour Hoffman Eyes Spy Thriller A Most Wanted Man

Two-time Tony nominee Philip Seymour Hoffman is gearing up to star as Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman beginning February 13, but the Oscar winner may be moving to Germany this fall. Hoffman is in final negotiations to star in A Most Wanted Man, a film adaptation of the bestselling John Le Carré novel, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Directed by Anton Corbijn, the film is slated to begin shooting in Hamburg this September.

Set in present-day Hamburg, Hoffman will star as the chief of a German spy operation attempting to discover the identity of a mysterious half-Chechen half-Russian man. The man, who has turned up in Hamburg’s Islamic community, is searching for the fortune of his late Russian father.

Hoffman received Tony nominations for Long Day’s Journey Into Night and True West. He won an Academy Award for Capote. His additional film credits include Cold Mountain, Magnolia, Flawless, Moneyball and Doubt, an adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play. The Broadway revival of Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman opens officially on March 15 at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre.
