The Culture Project will present the world premiere of In Masks Outrageous and Austere, the final full-length play by Tennessee Williams. The production, directed by David Schweizer (Horizon), begins performances on April 5 and runs through May 26, with an opening night set for April 16. The cast and creative team will be announced in the coming weeks.
In Masks Outrageous and Austere tells the story of the richest woman in the world. She, her husband, and her husband’s young male lover are kidnapped by the mysterious corporate forces behind the woman’s vast wealth.
Williams began work on Masks in 1979 and continued writing until his death in 1983. The piece was discovered some years later, having been protected from public scrutiny by Williams' friend and frequent collaborator, writer Gavin Lambert.
