Off-Broadway’s The New Group will honor playwrights David Rabe and Nancy Manocherian at its 2012 Gala, Cabaret Soiree. Janeane Garofalo and Morgan Spector are set to host the February 27 at Edison Ballroom, which will feature cabaret performances by Alan Cumming, Veanne Cox, Melissa Errico, Jay Rogers, Penny Fuller and Leslie Uggams.
Cabaret Soiree will be an evening of cocktails, dinner, entertainment, and silent and live auctions. Among the expected guests are Deema Aitken, Eric Bogosian, Jo Bonney, Bobby Cannavale, Halley Wegyn Gross, Anthony Haden-Guest, Josh Hamilton, Jim Lehrer, Robin MacNeil, Daniel Oreskes, Lily Rabe, Alan Rickman, Wallace Shawn, Erika Sheffer, Dennis Staroselsky, Sarah Steele, Theo Stockman, Raviv Ullman, Claire van der Boom and others.
Rabe and Manocherian will be honored with the sixth annual Michael Mendelson Award. Founded in 2005, this award recognizes individuals who show outstanding commitment to the theatrical community. Past recipients include Wallace Shawn, Fred Wistow, Robyn Goodman, Ethan Hawke, Ruth and Stephen Hendel, Wendy Ettinger and Derek McLane.
