This year’s Academy Awards ceremony may be over, but that doesn't mean Oscar buzz has died down yet! Leading up to the big night, Broadway.com asked readers which Oscar nominee they would most like to see make his or her Broadway debut. The results are in, and an Emmy winner, a recent Oscar winner and a three-time nominee were among readers’ picks. Take a look at the results below!
1. Melissa McCarthy - 25%
Melissa McCarthy received an Oscar nomination this year for her comedic turn in the hit movie Bridesmaids as Megan, the outrageous future sister-in-law of Maya Rudolph. The actress won an Emmy in 2011 for her starring role on TV's Mike & Molly. Though, the funny lady has never been on Broadway, she is an alumna of the improv group The Groundlings and recently hosted Saturday Night Live, so she should be comfortable performing live theater.
2. Octavia Spencer – 11%
Octavia Spencer won the Academy Award, a Golden Globe, a BAFTA and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Minny Jackson in The Help. The actress has appeared in over 95 films and TV series and in 2009 was named one of the “25 Funniest Actresses in Hollywood” by Entertainment Weekly.
3. Michelle Williams – 10%
Michelle Williams may have started out on the WB teen drama Dawson’s Creek, but over the last decade she has proved herself to be one of the great young actresses working today. Williams received her third Oscar nomination for playing legendary screen siren Marilyn Monroe, and even took voice lessons for the role. Michelle, put those lessons to further use on a Broadway stage, please!
