Casting is complete for the upcoming world premiere production of In Masks Outrageous and Austere, the final play by Tennessee Williams. As previously announced, Tony winner Shirley Knight will star as Clarissa “Babe” Foxworth. Directed by David Schweizer, the production begins performances at off-Broadway’s Culture Project on April 6, and will run through May 26. Opening night is scheduled for April 16.
Joining Knight will be Scot Charles Anderson, Kaolin Bass, Robert Beitzel, Connor Buckley, Alison Fraser, Christopher Halladay, Ward Horton, Jonathan Kim, Jermaine Miles, Pamela Shaw and Sam Underwood.
In Masks Outrageous and Austere tells the story of the richest woman in the world, who along with her husband and his young male lover, are kidnapped by the mysterious corporate forces behind the woman’s vast wealth.
The production will include set design by Jim Noone, costume design by Gabriel Berry, lighting design by Alexander V. Nichols, sound design by Dan Moses Schreier and projections and visual effects by Darrel Maloney. Joe E. Jeffreys will serve as dramaturge for the production.
Williams began work on the play in 1979 and continued writing until his death in 1983. The play was discovered some years later, having been protected from public scrutiny by Tennessee’s friend, writer Gavin Lambert, who had collaborated with Williams on the piece.
