The 27th Annual Lucille Lortel Awards will be held on May 6 at the NYU Skirball Center in New York City. Nominations are set to be announced on March 29. During the awards presentation, producer Richard Frankel will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award. Additionally, playwright Richard Foreman will be inducted into the Playwrights’ Sidewalk in front of the Lucille Lortel Theatre.
Frankel has produced and managed over 90 productions on and off-Broadway, in London and throughout the world, including The Producers, Hairspray, Angels in America, Smokey Joe’s Café, A Little Night Music, Company, Sweeney Todd and Gypsy on Broadway. His off-Broadway productions include Stomp, Penn and Teller, Driving Miss Daisy and Love Letters.
Foreman is the founder and artistic director of the Ontological-Hysteric Theater. His plays include Maria Del Bosco, IDIOT SAVANT, Bad Boy Nietzsche and King Cowboy Rufus Rules the Universe!
Since 1986, the Lucille Lortel Awards have recognized excellence in off-Broadway productions. In 2011, the ceremony was held at the NYU Skirball Center, and was hosted by off-Broadway alums Zach Braff and Samantha Bee.
