Casting has been announced for many of the National Theatre’s upcoming 2012 spring and summer productions.
Shakespeare classic Timon of Athens begins performances on July 10 and opens July 17 at the Olivier Theatre, starring the previously announced Simon Russell Beale. Joining Beale will be Martin Chamberlain, Jason Cheater, Stavros Demetraki, Paul Dodds, Deborah Findlay, Ciaran McMenamin and Nick Sampson. Nicholas Hytner directs.
The Doctor’s Dilemma by Bernard Shaw will open at the Lyttelton Theatre on July 24, starring Tom Burke, Aden Gillett, Paul McLeary, Genevieve O’Reilly and Malcolm Sinclair. Nadia Fall directs.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, based on the novel by Mark Haddon and adapted by Simon Stephens, will begin previews on July 24 and open August 2 in the Cottesloe Theatre, directed by Marianne Elliott. The cast includes Matthew Barker, Niamh Cusack, Maggie Service, Nick Sidi, Una Stubbs, Luke Treadaway, Nicola Walker and Howard Ward. The production will be designed by Bunny Christie, with lighting by Paule Constable, movement by Scott Graham & Steven Hoggett for Frantic Assembly, sound by Ian Dickinson and fights by Kate Waters.
Following a sell-out run in the Cottesloe last year, Alecky Blythe and Adam Cork’s music-theatre piece London Road will return, this time to the Olivier Theatre. Rufus Norris’ production will play for a limited run in repertoire from July 28 until September 6. Original cast members returning include Clare Burt, Kate Fleetwood, Hal Fowler, Nick Holder, Claire Moore, Michael Shaeffer, Nicola Sloane, Paul Thornley and Duncan Wisbey
