Amy Brenneman will lead the world premiere of Gina Gionfriddo's Rapture, Blister, Burn at off-Broadway's Playwrights Horizon. Directed by Peter DuBois, the production begins its run May 18, with opening night set for June 12. The limited engagement concludes June 24. The cast also features Virginia Kull, Kellie Overbey and Lee Tergesen.
After grad school, Catherine (Brenneman) and Gwen (Overbey) chose different life paths as Catherine became an esteemed academice, while Gwen focused on her husband and children. Decades later, unfulfilled by their decisions, each woman covets the other's life, commencing a dangerous game of musical chairs, with the prize being Gwen's husband (Tergesen.)
Five-time Emmy nominee Brenneman's stage credits include The Learned Ladies, Sincerity Forever, God's Heart and St. Joan of the Stockyards. Her many TV credits include Private Practice, Judging Amy and NYPD Blue. Overbey has appeared on Broadway in The Coast of Utopia, Twentieth Century, Judgement at Nuremberg, Present Laughter and Buried Child. Dixon has appeared on Broadway in The Royal Family, Major Barbara, Wrong Mount and off-Broadway in Wings, Vieux Carre, The Cripple of Inishmaan and Therese Raquin. Kull recently appeared at Playwrights Horizon in Assistance. Her Broadway credits include Man and Boy, Dividing the Estate and Old Acquaintance. Tergesen's off-Broadway work includes Good Boys and True, The Foreigner and The Exonerated.
