Emi Wokoma is set to play Tina Turner opposite Chris Tummings as Ike Turner in the new West End musical Soul Sister, inspired by the music, life and times of Ike and Tina Turner. Written by John Miller and Pete Brooks and directed by Brooks and Bob Eaton, the limited engagement will run at the Savoy Theatre from August 20 to September 29. No further casting has been announced.
Soul Sister features Turner classics including “Simply the Best," "What’s Love Got to Do with It," "Proud Mary," "Private Dancer" and "River Deep Mountain High." The musical follows the highs and lows, the passions and heartbreak of Ike and Tina Turner as their careers blossomed and their marriage crumbled.
Wokoma’s stage credits include Hairspray, Little Shop of Horrors, The Bacchae and Porgy and Bess. Tummings' many stage credits include The Harder They Come, The Big Life and Fabulation.
The creative team for Soul Sister includes design by Laura Hopkins, musical staging by Jason Pennycooke and musical supervision and arrangement by Keith Strachan.
