Broadway theaters will dim their lights for one minute at 8PM on July 12 in honor of Tony-winning costume designer Martin Pakledinaz, who passed away from brain cancer on July 8 at age 58.
Pakledinaz won Tony Awards for his designs for Thoroughly Modern Millie and Kiss Me Kate. He also received nominations for Anything Goes, Lend Me a Tenor, Blithe Spirit, Gypsy, The Pajama Game, Golden Child and The Life. His many other credits include Man and Boy, Master Class, The Normal Heart, Grease, The Pirate Queen, Holiday, Hamlet, Hedda Gabler and La Cage aux Folles. He also taught on the graduate level at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.
"Our thoughts go out to friends, family, and colleagues of Marty Pakledinaz,” Charlotte St. Martin, Executive Director of The Broadway League, said in a statement. “His contributions to Broadway, opera, dance, and regional theater via costume design inspired countless performers and creative teams to tell stories with truth and style. His passion and deep knowledge of American theater history, combined with his detailed approach and natural creativity was a gift to all of us.”
