After having played the role of Glinda in 2010, Louise Dearman will return to the West End production of Wicked, this time as Elphaba. Dearman begins her run as Elphaba on October 29 at the Apollo Victoria Theatre. Dearman marks the first actress to have taken on both leading roles in the hit musical.
"As an actress, you strive to challenge yourself to play as many diverse roles as possible throughout your career, and right now I feel like the luckiest girl in the history of musical theatre," Dearman said in a statement. "I still can’t quite believe that in two months’ time I’ll be back in Wicked, but this time I won’t come and go by bubble, I’ll be on a broomstick!"
Featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman, Wicked tells the story of two young witches in Oz, and how the misunderstood green-skinned witch Elphaba is declared the Wicked Witch of the West.
Dearman has appeared on the West End in Guys and Dolls and in U.K. tours of Evita, Jekyll and Hyde, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Grease.
