So You Think You Can Dance judge and American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe is looking to develop a contemporary reworking of the popular '80s TV series Fame, according to The Hollywood Reporter. No network, casting or potential start date have been announced at this time.
Based on the hit 1980 film of the same name, the original series ran from 1982-1987 and followed the lives of students at the New York City High School for the Performing Arts. The original series starred Debbie Allen, Carlo Imperato, Gene Anthony Ray, Albert Hague and Ann Nelson.
A musical adaptation of the film has toured nationally and ran at off-Broadway's Little Shubert Theatre, billed as Fame on 42nd Street, in 2003. A film remake, featuring Broadway veterans Bebe Neuwirth, Kelsey Grammer, Megan Mullally and Anna Maria Perez de Tagle, was released in 2009.
