Frequent Tony Awards host and Emmy winner Neil Patrick Harris will star in a sequel to Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, according to Variety. The follow-up to the 2008 made-for-internet musical is scheduled to begin production next year, according to creator Joss Whedon. The CW will air the original Dr. Horrible on October 9.

Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog follows the love triangle between super-villain-in-training Dr. Horrible (Harris), his arch nemesis Captain Hammer (Nathan Fillion) and their shared love interest (Felicia Day). The musical, written and directed by Whedon and his brothers Zack and Jed Whedon, was first posted online in July 2008. The project stemmed as a result of the Writer’s Guild of America Strike, and went on to win an Emmy, a Streamy and a People’s Choice Award.

Harris has been nominated for multiple Emmys and Golden Globes for his starring role as Barney Stinson on How I Met Your Mother. He won an Emmy for his guest starring role on Glee. He has appeared on Broadway in Proof, Cabaret and Assassins and starred as Bobby in the New York Philharmonic’s staging of Company. Harris has directed several stage productions in Los Angeles, including Rent at the Hollywood Bowl.
