Is there a doctor in the house? Taxi star and Broadway vet Judd Hirsch will channel Sigmund Freud in the Los Angeles premiere of Freud’s Last Session opposite Tom Cavanagh as C.S. Lewis. Directed by Tyler Marchant (who helmed the original off-Broadway production of Mark St. Germain’s play), the drama will run at the Broad Stage in Santa Monica, California. Freud’s Last Session is scheduled to begin performances January 11 and play a limited engagement through February 10.
Based loosely on the bestselling book Dr. Armand M. Nicholi Jr.'s The Question of God, Freud’s Last Session imagines a meeting between psychoanalyst Dr. Sigmund Freud and Chronicles of Narnia writer C.S. Lewis at Freud’s home in London. The two historical figures debate the existence of God, sex, love and the meaning of life— just two weeks before Freud decides to take his own. Freud’s Lasts Session originally opened at off-Broadway’s Marjorie S. Deane Little Theatre on July 22, 2010, before transferring to New World Stages. The production originally starred Mark H. Dold as C.S. Lewis and Martin Rayner as Sigmund Freud.
