Flashdance, the '80s flick that inspired a generation of dancers and drawers full of off-the-shoulder tops, is coming to the stage in a Broadway national tour. Director and choreographer Sergio Trujillo announced the musical’s stars in—where else?—Pittsburgh, where the story takes place. Emily Padgett (Rock of Ages) will take the lead as welder (by day) and aspiring dancer (by night) Alex Owens. Matthew Hydzik (West Side Story) will play Nick Hurley, the handsome guy who encourages Alex’s dreams and Rachelle Rak (Catch Me If You Can) co-stars as Tess, one of Alex’s close friends. In addition to exciting musical performances from the three leads, Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl proclaimed January 1, 2013, Flashdance Day, in honor of the show’s scheduled premiere at Heinz Hall.
