Can an old piano tear a family apart? August Wilson’s moving drama The Piano Lesson is bringing the flavor of Pittsburgh’s Hill District to off-Broadway’s Irene Diamond Stage, and on November 18, the cast celebrated their official opening night. In The Piano Lesson, Boy Willie (Brandon J. Dirden) and his sister Berniece (Roslyn Ruff) uncover memories of their family’s past as they fight about what to do with their shared legacy—an antique piano. After the performance, director Ruben Santiago Hudson and stars Chuck Cooper, James A. Williams, Jason Dirden, Eric Lenox Abrams, Alexis Holt and Mandi Masden joined Dirden and Ruff for a post-show celebration at the Pershing Square Signature Center.
