Andy Sandberg to Direct Workshop of Recording Industry Tuner Beyond the Music

Andy Sandberg will direct a workshop presentation of Beyond the Music, a new musical featuring music and lyrics by Cliff Downs and Katie Kahanovitz. The musical presentation, for which Sandberg also wrote the book, will feature choreography by AC Ciulla and music supervision by Fred Lassen. The presentation will take place on January 28 and 29. No casting has been announced at this time.

Beyond the Music tells the story of Casey, an upcoming singer/songwriter navigating the world of the music business. As she sacrifices her personal life for her music career, Casey begins to pave her way to the top. However as she tries to separate her passion for music from her relationships, she is betrayed by the people she loves. A reading of Beyond the Music was held in October 2011, starring Donna Bullock, Emily Padgett, Bryce Ryness, Saycon Sengbloh, Jesse Swenson and Peter Gregus.

Sandberg produced The Best Man and Hair on Broadway. He will direct the forthcoming production of Zelda at the Oasis at off-Broadway’s St. Luke’s Theatre. He also served as the director and producer of off-Broadway’s The Last Smoker in America.
