Blythe Danner Begins Run As Matthew Broderick’s Kooky Mother in Nice Work If You Can Get It

Tony and Emmy winner Blythe Danner begins her run as Millicent Winter in Nice Work If You Can Get It on December 18. Danner succeeds Academy Award winner Estelle Parsons, who originated the role. Directed and choreographed by Kathleen Marshall and featuring a book by Joe DiPietro, the hit Gershwin musical is currently playing at Broadway’s Imperial Theatre, starring Matthew Broderick and Kelli O’Hara. Danner will play a 12-week engagement through March 10, 2013.

Nice Work If You Can Get It tells the toe-tapping story of Jimmy Winter (Broderick), a wealthy playboy who falls for rough and tumble bootlegger Billie Bendix (O’Hara) on the weekend of his wedding. Danner will star as Jimmy’s eccentric mother, who is keeping a very important secret from her son. Nice Work If You Can Get It features a score of classic George and Ira Gershwin hits, including “Someone to Watch Over Me,” “Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off,” “Sweet and Lowdown” and more.

Danner earned a Tony Award for Butterflies are Free, and three additional nominations for A Streetcar Named Desire, Follies and Betrayal. Her other Broadway credits include Blithe Spirit, The Deep Blue Sea, The Philadelphia Story, Twelfth Night, The Miser, Lovers and Cyrano de Bergerac. Danner earned two Emmy Awards for Huff. Her additional film and TV credits include Meet the Parents, Meet the Fockers, Little Fockers, The Lucky One, The X Files, Up All Night and Will & Grace.
