Put your hands in the air! Tony nominee Pablo Schreiber will star as a crazy, tough police officer alongside Blair Underwood in the NBC pilot Ironside, according to Deadline.com. A reimagining of the 1967 TV cop drama of the same name, the pilot will be written by Mike Caleo and directed by Peter Horton. Additional casting will be announced shortly.
Ironside tells the story of Robert T. Ironside (Underwood), a sexy but cynical police detective who, after a shooting, must use a wheelchair. His disability, however, is not a setback in his career, and he continues to challenge his teammates to solve tough cases. One team member, Virgil (Schreiber), is a tough cop who will do absolutely anything to protect his partners.
Schreiber earned a Tony nomination for his Broadway debut in Awake and Sing! He also appeared on Broadway in Desire Under the Elms. Known for playing Nick Sobotka on the HBO series The Wire, Schreiber’s additional TV and film credits include Weeds, The Manchurian Candidate, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Lords of Dogtown, The Mudge Boy, A Gifted Man and Lights Out.
