Justin Bartha will replace David Krumholtz, who was originally slated to play Ben in the Center Theatre group production of The Sunshine Boys, according to the Los Angeles Times. Krumholtz reportedly left the production during the second week of rehearsal for “personal reasons.” Directed by Thea Sharrock and starring Danny DeVito and Judd Hirsch, the Neil Simon comedy will begin performances September 24 at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles, CA, with an official opening night on October 2.
Bartha made his Broadway debut in Lend Me a Tenor. His film and TV credits include The New Normal, CBGB, The Rebound, New York, I Love You, Teachers, Failure to Launch, National Treasure, Trust the Man, Gigli and The Hangover films.
The Sunshine Boys tells the story of Willie Clark (DeVito) and Al Lewis (Hirsch), an aging vaudeville team who reunites after many years to do a TV special. Bartha will play Willie’s nephew Ben, who attempts to convince the two men to reunite.
