Long-Running Canadian Anne of Green Gables Musical on Tap for Film Adaptation
A movie musical adaptation of 'Anne of Green Gables' is hitting the big screen.

Anne with an "E" goes to the movies! A new movie musical adaptation of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s beloved young adult novel Anne of Green Gables is headed for the big screen, according to Variety. Written by playwright Kristen Thomson, the new movie will be adapted from the popular stage show Anne of Green Gables—the Musical, which has been playing throughout Canada since 1965. No casting or release dates have been announced.

Featuring music by Norman Campbell, a book by Don Harron and Campbell and additional lyrics by Campbell and Mavor Moore, the musical tells the story of Anne, a young orphan who is sent to Green Gables, a farmhouse on Prince Edward Island, to live with Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert. The Cuthberts had initially wanted a boy, and Anne must fight to convince the pair to let her stay. The musical, currently touring throughout Canada, stars Katie Kerr as Anne Shirley, Tim Koetting as Matthew Cuthbert, Marlane O’Brien as Marilla Cuthbert and Jessica Gallant as Diana Barry.

Anne of Green Gables was originally published in 1908. It has sold more than 50 million copies and has been translated into 20 languages.
