Celebrated avant-garde performer Justin Vivian Bond will star as canteen proprietress Leokadia Begbick in Classic Stage Company's upcoming production of Bertolt Brecht's A Man's A Man. Directed by Brian Kulick, and featuring new music by Tony winner Duncan Sheik, the production will begin performances on January 10, 2014 at the off-Broadway theater. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.

A Man's A Man tells the story of Galy Gay, a simple man out shopping who, by the trickery of some soldiers, is turned into a soldier, enlisted into Her Majesty’s Armed Forces and, eventually, reassembled into a killing machine. The play is Brecht’s ode to the inhumanity of man. Kulick and Shiek collaborated on last season’s production of Brecht’s The Caucasian Chalk Circle at CSC.

Bond was nominated for a Tony Award for 2007's Kiki & Herb: Alive on Broadway. Mx Bond's other theater credits include Jukebox Jackie: Snatches of Jackie Curtis and Hidden: A Gender. Mx Bond's film credits include John Cameron Mitchell's Shortbus, Sunset Stories, Imaginary Heroes and Fanci’s Persuasion. Mx Bond is the author of the Lambda Literary Award-winning memoir TANGO: My Childhood, Backwards and in High Heels.
