Broadway’s favorite kooky auntie is heading to 54 Below, and she's bringing friends! The new concert series 54 Sings is launching at the theater hotspot December 8 with its inaugural performance, It’s Today… 54 Sings Mame. Tony winner Leslie Uggams, two-time Tony nominee Dee Hoty, Tony winner Beth Leavel, Klea Blackhurst, Hunter Ryan Herdlicka, Donna Lynne Champlin, Eric Michael Gillett, Annie Golden, Pamela Myers and Lee Roy Reams will sing Jerry Herman's iconic songs at the one-night-only engagement.
Next up is On Broadway: 54 Sings Smokey Joe’s Cafe on February 9, where a slew of stars from the original Broadway production will reunite. Adrian Bailey, Deb Lyons, Tony nominee Brenda Braxton, Frederick Owens, Tony nominee DeLee Lively and Darryl Williams will “Teach You How to Shimmy” on the 54 Below Stage. The 1995 Broadway musical is a toe-tapping revue of hits by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller.
The series continues on March 9, with a one-night-only concert engagement of Side Show. The 1997 musical by Bill Russell and Henry Krieger was nominated for four Tony Awards. The word is still out on who will play real-life conjoined twins Daisy and Violet Hilton—the roles were originated by Alice Ripley and Emily Skinner, who were nominated for a joint Tony for their performances. We’ve got our fingers crossed for a reunion!
