Manhattan Theatre Club artistic producer Mandy Greenfield will become the new artistic director of the Williamstown Theatre Festival in Massachusetts. As previously announced, current artistic director Jenny Gersten is leaving the theater festival in the Berkshires in January 2014 to become the executive director of Friends of the Highline. Greenfield will officially take over beginning September 2014.
"We are thrilled for Jenny's new chapter, and know that she will forever be linked to WTF; we welcome Mandy Greenfield with great excitement,” Williamstown board chair Matt Harris said in a statement. “Mandy has the experience, leadership ability, taste, and vision to help us write the next chapter for our theater.”
Greenfield currently leads programming for the two off-Broadway theaters at City Center and collaborates on the programming of Broadway’s Samuel J. Freidman Theatre. She has commissioned, developed and produced new world premiere plays and musicals by Nell Benjamin, Liz Flahive, Daniel Goldfarb, David Harrower, Matthew Lopez, Tarell Alvin McCraney, Dennis Kelly, Itamar Moses, Conor McPherson, Lynn Nottage and more. Greenfield is a member of the Broadway League, serves on the Advisory Board of the Drama League and is a judge for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize.
