Tony winner Jeremy Irons and off-Broadway vet Jesse Eisenberg will join the cast of Zack Snyder’s upcoming as-yet-untitled Superman/Batman movie. Eisenberg is set to play iconic Superman villain Lex Luthor while Irons will portray Bruce Wayne’s butler Alfred, according to Deadline. The motion picture is set for a May 6, 2016 release.
Eisenberg has appeared onstage off-Broadway in Rattlestick productions of his plays The Revisionist with Vanessa Redgrave and Asuncion. Eisenberg earned an Oscar nomination for The Social Network. His other screen credits include The Squid and the Whale, Zombieland, Solitary Man, The Newsroom and Adventureland.
A Tony Award winner for The Real Thing, Irons last appeared on Broadway in Impressionism. Other stage work includes Godspell, Macbeth, The Winter’s Tale, Richard II and Embers. An Oscar winner for Reversal of Fortune, his film and TV credits include The Borgias, The Lion King, Brideshead Revisited and Kafka.
Chris Terrio is currently writing a script from a screenplay by David S. Goyer for the Superman/Batman film. The movie will also star Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent, Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White and Diane Lane as Martha Kent.
