Final Blow: Rocky Musical Set to Close on Broadway
The finale of 'Rocky'
'Rocky' will close after a five-month run.

Looks like the Italian Stallion is down for the count. The Broadway musical Rocky, starring 2014 Tony Award nominee Andy Karl in the title role, has announced plans to close on August 17. Directed by Alex Timbers, the production began performances on February 13 and officially opened on March 13. At time of closing, the musical will have played 28 previews and 188 regular performances at the Winter Garden Theatre.

With a score by the Tony-winning songwriting team Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty and a book by Tony winner Thomas Meehan and Sylvester Stallone, Rocky brings to life the story of struggling small time Philly boxer, Rocky Balboa, who gets a once-in-a-lifetime shot to go the distance against heavyweight champ Apollo Creed. The new musical is based on the Academy Award-winning 1976 film of the same name, which starred Stallone in the title role.

Rocky also stars Margo Seibert as Adrian, Danny Mastrogiorgio as Paulie, Dakin Matthews as Mickey, Terence Archie as Apollo Creed and Jennifer Mudge as Gloria.
