Here's a quick roundup of stories you may have missed today.
Prince Billy Rocks Again
Into the Woods star Billy Magnussen will ditch the leather prince pants (or maybe not? We don’t know!) to rock out with his band Reserved for Rondee later this month. The band will perform on December 18 at New York’s Slake to benefit Studio One Eighty Nine Fashion Rising, which aims to promote and curate African and African-inspired content, as well as The Helene Marks Early Start Foundation, which raises money for youth learning centers and educators.
Jerry Mitchell Returns to Broadway Bares
Dates are now set for the 25th edition of Broadway Bares, the steamy burlesque show to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. A whola lotta scantily clad chorus boys and girls will shed for a cause for two performances on June 21, 2015 at the Hammerstein Ballroom. Tony winner and Broadway Bares creator Jerry Mitchell will return to direct (he helmed the first 13 editions and has served as executive producer since). No word yet one what the theme will be, but whatever it is, count us in!
Bid Farewell to Once
The Tony-winning Broadway music Once will pack up the guitar and close the piano fall board on January 4, 2015. But have no fear, because shortly after that, the tuner’s stars Paul Alexander Nolan and Jessie Fisher, standby Ben Hope, and original cast members Will Connoly, David Abelis and Tony nominee Elizabeth A. Davis will throw a goodbye concert for the touching tuner. Raise your hopeful voice with the cast one last time on January 6 at the Highline Ballroom.
A Holiday Favorite Gets Cracked
Broadway alums Jerome and Michelle Vivona, who are now the husband-and-wife co-directors of the American Theater Dance Workshop, will present the world premiere of Cracked, a new take on Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. The ballet, which follows Clara’s granddaughter through the streets of New York to the Land of Sweets, blends familiar elements of the holiday favorite with complete new twists. The American Theater Dance Workshop and Nomad Contemporary Ballet production will run for two performances on both December 20 and 21.
