We're ready to let her entertain us. Lara Pulver will reunite with Imelda Staunton for the previously announced West End transfer of Gypsy, reprising her performance as Louise in the Chichester Festival Theatre production. Joining them is West End and Doctor Who alum Peter Davison, who will take on the role of Herbie. The Jonathan Kent-helmed staging will begin performances on March 30 at the Savoy Theatre, where it will play through November 28. Opening night is set for April 15.
The Chichester production began performances on October 6 of last year and concluded its run on November 8. Additional casting for the West End transfer will be announced at a later date.
Pulver will make her West End debut in Gypsy; her previous stage credits include Uncle Vanya at Chichester, Parade, Honk!, The Last Five Years, Into the Woods and High Society. Davison last appeared in the West End in Legally Blonde; he also starred in Spamalot. In addition to Doctor Who, his screen credits include All Creatures Great and Small and The Last Detective.
Gypsy, featuring a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, tells the story of how Rose Hovick (or Mama Rose, as she is best known) inadvertently helps to turn her daughter, Louise, into the burlesque star Gypsy Rose Lee. It last played the London stage in 1973, starring Angela Lansbury as the ultimate stage mother.
