If Christmas and New Years are a Broadway box office’s best friend, a January blizzard is its greatest villain. Almost every show on the Great White Way saw a dip in attendance for the week that Snowstorm Juno hit New York. The two shows to increase in capacity over the previous week were The Lion King (which, along with a bevy of others, played only seven performances) and The River, starring Hugh Jackman. The average ticket price did drop for the latter, but the Jez Butterworth drama had no problem filling its 696-seat (plus standing room) house. The play will take its final bow at the Circle in the Square Theatre on February 8, and we expect that no amount of snow (or slush) will keep audiences from one final chance to watch Jackman cook an entire fish dinner live on stage.
