Original Broadway cast member Arnie Burton will reprise his role of Clown #2 in the upcoming off-Broadway revival of 39 Steps. Directed by Maria Aitken, the production will begin an open-ended run at the Union Square Theatre on April 1 and will officially open on April 13.
Burton will be joined by Billy Carter as Clown #1, Broadway vet Robert Petkoff as Richard Hannay and Brittany Vicars, who will make her New York City stage debut as Pamela/Annabella/Margaret.
Adapted from the 1935 Hitchcock film thriller by Patrick Barlow, The 39 Steps features a cast of four actors who reenact all of the characters, locations and famous scenes in the movie using just a few props and a lot of theatrical ingenuity and split second quick changes.
After beginning life in London, The 39 Steps received its American premiere in September 2007 at the Huntington Theatre Company in Boston. The show moved to the Roundabout Theatre Company’s American Airlines Theatre on January 4, 2008, transferred to the Cort Theatre on April 29, 2008, and then to the Helen Hayes Theatre on January 21, 2009. After closing on Broadway on January 10, 2010, The 39 Steps moved to New World Stages on March 25, 2010, where it played through January 16, 2011.
