The Frozen sequel is officially happening! According to Deadline, Disney bigwig Bob Iger made the announcement at a shareholder meeting on March 12. Frozen directors and co-creators Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck will work on Frozen 2, although as previously reported, they haven’t yet found their way “into what’s next.”
No word so far on whether the Great White Way-friendly voices featured in the film including If/Then supernova Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff, Josh Gad and Kristen Bell are on board, but we will not be letting them go from the project without a fight! The cast recently reprised their roles in the new animated short Frozen Fever, which will play in movie theaters before the live action Cinderella beginning March 13.
A Broadway adaptation of the Oscar-winning and billion dollar-grossing movie is already being developed and may be directed by Alex Timbers. The EGOT-winning Robert Lopez and the Oscar and Grammy winning Kristen Anderson-Lopez, who wrote the indelible songs for the film are working on the tuner along with Lee. It's not been confirmed that the Lopez's are penning songs for the sequel, but they were also involved with Frozen Fever.
