Beauty and the Beast, the Disney musical based on the animated film, will make its Indian premiere this fall. The new staging will be performed in English and introduce a design concept featuring local influences. Performances will run in Mumbai and Delhi from October to December.
The new production will be directed by Vikranth Pawar, creative head of Live Entertainment at Disney India; former Dance India Dance judge Terence Lewis will choreograph. The staging will feature sets by Varsha Jain and costumes by Gavin Miguel.
Beauty and the Beast, featuring music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Tim Rice and the late Howard Ashman and a book by Linda Woolverton, premiered on Broadway at the Palace Theatre on April 18, 1994. It moved to the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in 1999 and played its final performance there on July 29, 2007.
