Jonathan Pryce to Return to the New York Stage
Game of Thrones’ Jonathan Pryce is coming back to the Big Apple's boards! No, not reprising his Tony-winning performance in the upcoming revival of Miss Saigon; instead he will appear as Shylock in London’s Globe Theatre’s production of The Merchant of Venice at this year’s Lincoln Center Theater festival. Directed by Jonathan Munby and starring the U.K. company, Shakespeare’s classic will run for seven performances only at the Rose Theater, on a set that recreates the Globe stage. The 20th anniversary season of the festival is scheduled to play July 13 through 31.
ABBA Reunites at Mamma Mia! Restaurant
You can dance, you can jive...in Stockholm! A Mamma Mia!-inspired restaurant has opened up in the Swedish capital and TV host Kristin Kaspersen caught all four former members of ABBA turning up to celebrate on her Instagram, below. This is a rarer occurrence than pigs flying through your bedroom window delivering Hamilton tickets. Anyway, at the Greek island-inspired venue, actors and musicians interact with waiters and guests and an English version is apparently being planned for this summer. Sounds like somewhere you can have the time of your life!
New Musical from Nicholas Lloyd Webber
Nicholas Lloyd Webber (unlike Alex Brightman, he is the composer's son!) and James D. Reid’s stage adaptation of The Little Prince—The Musical, will officially open at Theatre Calgary in Canada on January 22. Based on the classic book by Antoine de Saint- Exupéry, the tuner follows a disenchanted pilot who crashes his airplane in the middle of the Sahara desert and meets a mysterious young prince from a distant asteroid. Featuring Broadway alums Adam Brazier (The Woman in White) and Louise Pitre (Mamma Mia!), along with Sarah Caraher, the production will run through February 28.
Kelsey Grammer Talks Flying Back to Neverland
Kelsey Grammer recently returned to Broadway's Finding Neverland and he stopped by Live! With Kelly and Michael on January 21 to discuss his role(s) in the Broadway.com Audience Choice Award-winning musical. "It is the best part to play," the Emmy winner admitted about the character of Hook; he also appears as Charles Frohman in the show.
