It’s hard to be the Bard, but it’s even harder to say goodbye. Christian Borle took his final bow in Something Rotten! on July 16, concluding his Tony-winning stint as a leather-clad Shakespeare at the St. James Theatre. The musical comedy bid farewell to him with a box office boost reaching six figures; at $745,373, it reached its highest numbers since April. Additional shows to celebrate similar upticks included The Color Purple, On Your Feet! and Aladdin. Meanwhile, Cats crawled its way back to Broadway and took in $603,553 for its first four purrformances (sorry), and The Crucible ended its limited engagement with a spike up to $613,098 and the highest capacity since its official opening.
