Altar Boyz has announced its new frontman. New York stage newcomer Jason Celaya will begin performances as Matthew on April 3. "This is such an amazing opportunity to play Matthew and join the talented cast of Altar Boyz," Celaya told Broadway.com. "I am excited to be part of the show, and hope to continue the level of performance that has made the Altar Boyz so successful."

Celaya's regional theater credits include Annie Get Your Gun, West Side Story , Fiddler on the Roof and Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat. He danced with Origins dance company, and he has choreographed for other dance companies as well as for the Utah Jazz Girls NBA.

Scott Porter played Matthew when Altar Boyz opened on March 1, 2005 at New World Stages then Dodger Stages. He left on February 7, 2006 to begin filming a role in the upcoming television series Friday Night Lights. Since he departed, the role of Matthew has been played by James Royce Edwards and Corey Boardman who started performances on March 20, but neither was ever announced as a permanent replacement.

In addition to Porter, Altar Boyz, directed by Stafford Arima, currently features Tyler Maynard, Andrew C. Call, Clyde Alves and Dennis Moench.
