About the Show

The Wedding Singer will end its Broadway run on December 31 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre after 30 previews and 284 performances. The show opened on April 27 and was nominated for five 2006 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

Directed by John Rando, The Wedding Singer has music by Matthew Sklar, book by Chad Beguelin and Tim Herlihy and lyrics by Beguelin. The cast includes Stephen Lynch, Laura Benanti, Constantine Maroulis, Richard H. Blake, Kevin Cahoon, Felicia Finley, Rita Gardner and Amy Spanger.

The Wedding Singer has recently sold foreign license agreements for productions in both Japan and Korea, and has closed a deal with Music Theatre International for stock and amateur rights, according to a production spokesperson. Producers are also in discussion about a national tour beginning in 2007.

The departure of The Wedding Singer creates a mid-season opening at a desirable Broadway musical house. Curtains, the John Kander and Fred Ebb show that recently enjoyed a successful run at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles with David Hyde Pierce in the lead, has been talked about as a possible future tenant at the Hirschfeld.
