The original cast recording of Jersey Boys, produced by original Four Season Bob Gaudio, took home the Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album at the 19th annual awards ceremony, held February 11 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Jersey Boys, released by Rhino Records, won the prize over the cast recordings of The Color Purple, The Drowsy Chaperone, The Pajama Game and Sweeney Todd.
Although Beyonce Knowles sang "Listen" from Dreamgirls during the telecast, the song was not eligible in the category of Best Song Written for Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media because the eligibility period for this year's Grammys ran from October 1, 2005, to September 30, 2006. The song "Our Town," from Cars took home the prize, defeating Mel Brooks' "There's Nothing Like a Show on Broadway," which was added to the score of The Producers especially for the movie version.
Although Jennifer Hudson did not sing on the telecast, she appeared on camera to announce Robyn Troup as the winner of the "My Grammy Moment" contest, in which three finalists vied for the chance to sing a live duet with Justin Timberlake. Stephen Sondheim was announced as the winner of the 2007 Trustees Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the music industry in a non-performing capacity.
