About the Show

110 in the Shade, which was just honored with five 2007 Tony Award nominations, will extend two weeks at Studio 54. The Roundabout Theater revival starring Audra McDonald will now close on July 29.

110 in the Shade opened on May 9 to mostly positive reviews, most of which included love letters for leading lady McDonald who plays Lizzie Curry. Four-time Tony Award winner McDonald received her sixth nomination on Tuesday for the production, which was also nominated in the categories of Best Revival of a Musical, Best Featured Actor in a Musical John Cullum, Best Lighting of a Musical and Best Orchestrations.

In the middle of a heat wave in 1930's Texas, when everyone is longing for rain, or a breeze, Lizzie Curry McDonald is on the verge of becoming a hopeless old maid. Her wit, intelligence and skills as a homemaker can't make up for the fact that she can't find true love. Even the town sheriff Christopher Innvar, for whom she harbors a secret yen, won't take a chance. However, when a charismatic rainmaker named Starbuck Steve Kazee enters the town and her family's life, Lizzie's world is turned upside down.

110 in the Shade, directed by Lonny Price, features a book by N. Richard Nash based on his play The Rainmaker, music by Harvey Schmidt and lyrics by Tom Jones.
