About the Show

Spring Awakening will launch its first national tour on September 4 at the Curran Theater in San Francisco after a pre-tour premiere at San Diego's Balboa Theatre in August. Stops on the first year of the tour include Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Toronto, Seattle, Houston, Tempe, Louisville, East Lansing and Tampa, with other cities to be announced. Casting for the tour has not been set.

Variety noted that Spring Awakening has not met with resistance from presenters around the country in spite of its edgy subject matter and often explicit lyrics. The musical, which features a Tony-winning score by Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater, won eight 2007 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The Broadway production of Spring Awakening continues its run at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre, where it played to 92.59% of capacity for the week ending March 16.
