Casting has been announced for Signature Theatre's forthcoming revival of
Home, by Samm-Art Williams, the second production of its 2008-09 season celebrating the historic Negro Ensemble Company. Directed by Ron OJ Parson, the production will begin performances on November 11 and open on December 7 at the Peter Norton Space. The limited engagement will continue through January 4, 2009.
The cast of Home will include Tracey Bonner The Talented Tenth, the Goodman Theatre's production of Joe Turner's Come and Gone, Kevin T. Carroll Broadway productions of Take Me Out, 45 Seconds from Broadway, Bring in 'Da Noise, Bring in 'Da Funk and Angels in America and Signature's Seven Guitars, and January LaVoy Signature's Two Trains Running, Joy.
Home, which received a 1980 Best Play Tony nomination, is the tale of one man's struggle to stay true to himself amid a rapidly changing and turbulent America. Leaving behind his family's farm in North Carolina, Cephus Miles seeks refuge and prosperity in the North. Three actors portray more than 25 characters over the course of Cephus' epic journey from adolescence to adulthood, spanning the 1950s through the Vietnam War and Civil Rights eras.
The first production of Signature's NEC season, Leslie Lee's The First Breeze of Summer, has extended twice by popular demand and will play through October 19. After Home, Signature will present a revival of Charles Fuller's Zooman and the Sign and a staged reading of Douglas Turner Ward's Day of Absence.
