Chalfant, Spinella & Emond to Star in New Tony Kushner Play at the Guthrie

Angels in America stars Kathleen Chalfant and Stephen Spinella will be joined by Linda Emond Homebody/Kabul and Ron Menzel in the Guthrie Theater’s world premiere production of Tony Kushner’s The Intelligent Homosexual’s Guide to Capitalism and Socialism with a Key to the Scriptures. The play will run from May 9 to June 28 at the Minneapolis theater, directed by Michael Greif.

The new play is part of the Guthrie’s “Tony Kushner Celebration" festival, which will include Marcela Lorca’s production of the musical Caroline, or Change Kushner wrote the book and lyrics, collaborating with composer Jeanine Tesori, starring Greta Oglesby, and an evening of short plays directed by Tony Taccone.

In addition to the three plays, the Guthrie will offer a series of speakers and special events designed to examine the body of work of Kushner, winner of the Pulitzer Prize, an Emmy Award and two Tony Awards.
