It was October 1, 2008, when heart-warming hit musical Billy Elliot stepped onstage for its first Broadway preview, introducing young title stars Kiril Kulish, Trent Kowalik and David Alvarez and British powerhouse Haydn Gwynne to New York audiences. Just over one year, 370 performances and 10 Tony Awards later, the show offcially said goodbye to two of its original stars when Kulish and Gwynne played their last performances at the Imperial Theatre on October 4, 2009. It was a teary final curtain for the pair, who starred as Billy and dance teacher Mrs. Wilkinson, as cast members lined up for their turn to say goodbye. Post-show, Kulish will continue his training as a dancer, while Gwynne (along with her two sons) is headed back to her native London to reunite with her husband.
