To warm up the winter (and raise money for Broadway Cares/ Equity Fights AIDS) Tony Award-winning director/choreographer and Broadway Bares creator Jerry Mitchell has announced plans for a one-night-only event, Broadway Bares: Solo Strips, starring seven of the hottest men currently appearing on or off-Broadway. Two performances (8 and 11PM will be held at Splash on January 31), with tickets available at the door.
Solo Strips is a return to the origins of Broadway Bares when, in 1992, Mitchell organized a burlesque show featuring himself and six friends performing original strips on the bar at Splash for a $10 donation plus whatever tips the audience gave to the dancers. “As we were approaching our 20th edition of Bares, we set the goal of raising $1 million for BC/EFA,” Mitchell said in a statement. “The challenge is how to reach that when you already have two sold-out shows every year. So we decided to break from tradition by returning to our roots with these two performances at Splash. We look forward to announcing future events such as this so hopefully in June, we will announce Broadway Bares 20 has reached the amazing total of $1 million for BC/EFA.”
The cast of Broadway Bares: Solo Strips will include Joshua Buscher (West Side Story, Broadway Bares 19), John Carroll (A Chorus Line national tour, Broadway Bares 18 poster boy, Broadway Bares 19), Daniel Robinson (Hairspray, Broadway Bares 18 and 19 featured dancer), Anton Harrison LaMon (The Phantom of the Opera, Movin’ Out national tour, Broadway Bares 19), Tony James (The Lion King, Broadway Bares 16, 17, 18, featured dancer), Nick Kenkel (Peep Show, Legally Blonde, Broadway Bares 11-18), and Kenway Kua (Wicked, The Frogs, Broadway Bares 17).
